No loading and unloading by the driver

This September, the new regulations on loading and unloading tasks of the Land Transport Planning Law came into force.

The new Law dictates that the loading and unloading tasks cannot be carried out by the driver of the transport vehicle. Whoever fails to comply with this provision will be fined between 4,000 and 6,000 euros.

In practice, these changes are causing headaches for many haulage companies, due to the lack of personnel trained to perform loading and unloading tasks. In order to be ready for this new development, the company must have invested time in the training and safety of workers, attempting to limit as far as possible its impact on day-to-day operations.

One solution that the largest companies have been able to adopt is the automation of loading and unloading processes. However, the result of this is to wipe several Spanish transport companies off the map, since the vast majority do not have a large enough volume of operations to make implementing this solution profitable.
